Neil Oliver: ‘we are being taken for fools’.

Neil Oliver is a Scottish television presenter and journalist now working for GB News, a news outlet focusing on Britain which was launched in June 2021. GB News describes itself, inter alia, as being independent and as not shying away from controversial issues. I have not watched enough broadcasts to be able to provide an opinion based on a sufficiently broad viewing of their shows. Yet, judging from the headlines I have seen from this news outlet, they do not seem to represent as radical a departure from the BBC or from SkyNews as, say, the UK Column is. There is however one exception to what I perceive to be the journalistic conformism of GB News in the person of the outspoken Scotsman Neil Oliver. Unless mistaken, his show airs on Saturdays; so, for Remembrance Day (which in Britain falls on the second Sunday of November), Neil Oliver’s monologue came with the following powerful title: ‘Does Britain still exist? “Today’s leaders have no loyalty to Britain or the British”’.

In this long rant of his, Neil Oliver denounces in unequivocal terms some of the most painful ingredients of the globalists’ medicine [my words, nor Mr Oliver’s] which is being force-fed upon Britain and the British.

Neil Oliver’s latest monologue, dated 19th November, comes with a title that is in fact an admonition: ‘This country must awaken to the realisation that we are being taken for fools.’ In this monologue, he lambasts the green agenda/COP27, the evisceration of the farming industry, the recent C19 lockdowns and what he rightly describes as ‘the most disastrous medical intervention in history’, the sudden deaths of young and adults alike, the FTX ponzi scheme to funnel money to Ukraine and its potential use by the Biden administration as a pretext to regulate crypto currencies, immigration into Britain (and the conflicts of interest underpinning the economics which are sustaining this apparently unrelenting process), the destruction of the British middle class and, finally, his call to action.

Personally, I think that Neil Oliver could have made a good political speech writer because he is able to turn facts and opinion into sentences which are able to stir the stomachs of his listeners. Here are two examples: his opening remarks on what he believes might be the betrayal too far for Britain, namely imposition of the green agenda on the country, and his pièce de résistance, the destruction of the British middle class as his concluding ‘truth bomb salvo’.

I keep waiting for the betrayal too farthat action by the state against Britain that finally pushes every last citizen of the country that used to be Britain into the grim realisation that those illegitimates are out to get us. The green agenda that guarantees the impoverishment of the peoples of the West by pursuing the lie that wind and solar can take the place of gas, oil and coal. The green agenda that pushes the palpable nonsense: those of us with petrol and diesel cars today are meant to have electric cars tomorrow when all the evidence makes plain that you and I are meant to be going nowhere while our self-appointed masters go anywhere and everywhere. The green agenda that invites us to think that net zero and the rest are about anything more than stealing our rights and freedoms while further enriching the already rich.

[...]

The Conservative party has become what the Labour party has been for generations: the enemy of those who would work all the hours to make something of themselves, something they might raise up their children with and set them on the same aspirational road.

Governments of every stripe hate and loathe the self-employed, the entrepreneurs because, by definition, those sovereign individuals do not need the state. What those people need is for the state to get out of their way and this latest iteration of the state refuses to do that. On the contrary, they seek only to break the middle classes and have them ask for help instead.

What will it take, I ask, before the rest of this country awakens to the realisation that we are being had, being played and taken for fools? What will it take before those citizens see that we have put ourselves at the mercy of a criminal enterprise shaped only to rob us blind, hobble all ambition and see to it that we are cowed and submissive with our hands held out for a few shekels from our self-proclaimed lords and masters?

Here’s the thing: all of it stops when we say it stops. It doesn’t require every one of us – just enough of us – simply to realise that no cavalry is coming; no help is at hand. It’s up to us to see these charlatans for what they are, to disregard them – red, blue and every colour in between – to turn our backs on them and work together to make something else, something decent, something that is ours.
