Summary: Scott Ritter’s two cents on NATO, the EU and on who should take the blame for turning the heater off on Germany; transcript of Mr Ritter’s remarks; clip (embedded).

Scott Ritter: ‘NATO and the European Union are a direct extension of America.

Scott Ritter ‘is a former US Marine Corps intelligence officer who served in the Soviet Union as an inspector implementing the INF Treaty, in General Schwarzkopf’s staff during the Gulf War and, from 1991-1998, as a UN weapon inspector’ [Mr Ritter’s own words, as published on RT.com]. He now writes articles and books on geopolitical issues. Given that a significant part of his journalistic output appears on Russia Today (https://www.rt.com/search?q=Scott+Ritter versus https://consortiumnews.com/tag/scott-ritter/; see also https://t.me/s/scottritter), I suppose that some might be tempted to dismiss him as a mere paid propagandist for the Russian government. However, I am of the opinion that this would be a mistake because many of the pieces penned by Mr Ritter provide contrarian perspectives on geopolitical events or issues which are well worth reading as they tend to be insightful and offer the proverbial food for thought. So are his guest appearances on various shows distributed online through various platforms (YT, BitChute, Odysee, Rumble, etc.). The following is an excerpt of an interview Scott Ritter gave to the German language version of Russia Today and which was uploaded onto Odysee on 17th September under the title of ‘Scott Ritter: Die Bundesregierung macht alles, was USA sich wünschen, selbst wirtschaftlichen Suizid’(‘Scott Ritter: The federal government does everything the US wants, even economic suicide’). As usual, do your own research (for instance, you could look up who the father of the euro was or whether Operation Gladio was positive or negative for the countries concerned) and come to your own conclusions!

MY TRANSCRIPT

[…] potential and it was a very effective organisation, a defensive transatlantic alliance. But when the Soviet Union collapsed, at the end of 1991, the justification for NATO disappeared overnight. There literally was no reason for NATO to exist. But the United States continued to keep the NATO structure in place because it was a mechanism of control. The United States, through NATO, controlled Europe.

And NATO is closely linked to the European Union. Uh the European Union is the political and economic uhm side of the US-European alliance, of which NATO is the military’s … military-political side. Uhm you can’t speak of NATO without speaking of the European Union. Why? They’re the same people. Uhm and the United States dominates both.  So I … I don’t think it’s inaccurate to say that NATO and the European Union uhm are a direct extension of America.

I would go further and say that NATO and the European Union are simply tools of American geopolitical uh hegemony uhm, that Europe lacks any sort of unified uh independent of vision of what a European security framework looks like.

This is something that all Europeans should reflect on: does [sic] NATO and the European Union serve the best interests of Europe or does it serve exclusively the interests of the United States?

And that’s a question that all Europeans should ponder as they are freezing this winter. Freezing because of sanctions they’ve imposed on Russia at the behest of the United States. Germany again: Germany thought it was a good idea to start Nord Stream 2 to create a new gas pipeline. Why? Because Germany understood what the rest of Europe likewise should have understood: that the only reason why the German economy was as strong as it was, for as long as it was, is because they lived off of a reliable supply of cheap Russian gas. Now that they’ve denied themselves that gas, look how quickly the economy is tanking. Was it in Germany’s best interest to commit economic suicide? The answer of course is ‘no’. Then why did they do it? Because Germany and the German government doesn’t [sic] work for the benefit of the German people: it works for the exclusive benefit of the United States of America. So we, as Americans, thank you Germany for doing our bidding. But if I were a German, I’d be very upset at my government, I’d be very upset at the United States because it’s not Russia’s fault that Germany is going to be cold this winter, it’s America’s fault, it’s the German government’s fault.
