Are arrest warrants for Netanyahu and
Gallant likely?
On 26th April, I questioned
Perplexity.ai about this rumour
which had been circulating for 2 days. This is the answer I got:
Answer
Based on the reports from Israeli media outlets, it appears that arrest
warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav
Gallant, and Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi from the International
Criminal Court (ICC) are a distinct possibility in the near future. The
key points are:
- Israel's National Security Council held secret discussions about the
potential for the ICC to issue international arrest warrants against
Netanyahu, Gallant, and Halevi in the coming days, likely related to
Israel's military actions in Gaza.[1][2][4][5]
- Israeli officials predict the potential warrants would target
high-ranking political and military leaders, not low-ranking
officers.[2][4][5]
- Israel has already begun taking "immediate measures" to try to prevent
the warrants, including diplomatic pressure campaigns, involving the
U.S. administration, and Netanyahu holding calls with counterparts in
several countries.[1][2][4][5]
- Israeli officials view potential ICC warrants against their leadership
as similar to measures taken against Russia over the Ukraine war.[2][5]
- The Israeli Security Cabinet is set to discuss additional steps to
block possible ICC arrest warrants.[2][5]
So while not guaranteed, the prospect of ICC arrest warrants against
Netanyahu, Gallant and other top Israeli officials over alleged war
crimes in Gaza appears to be a serious concern for Israel based on these
media reports.[1][2][4][5]

My conclusion: there cannot be smoke without a fire!
What on earth caused such damage to this Abrams tank?
According to SouthFront, ‘
A recent report by The Associated
Press revealed that Kiev forces withdrew all Abrams tanks from the
front recently as the result of the excessive use of drones by
the Russian military, which made it too difficult for the tanks to
operate without detection or coming under attack.’ Well, I am not
sure that a drone would have managed to cause such damage to the inside
of this US Abrams tank with the warhead it carries unless the hatch had
been left open and the drone managed to explode inside of the tank
through this opening. Could it simply be that some kind of laser-like
beam hit the inside of the tank and caused some of the shells to
explode?

Querying Perplexity.ai and Bing Copilot about Iran’s restraint (so Israel’s days of
‘hit and run’ are not over!)
My initial intention was not to comment on
Iran’s decision to ignore Israel’s most recent attack against the
integrity of its national territory. Although
I
applaud this show of restraint on the part of Iran (a country
which has
not initiated an attack against
another country for more than 150 years), as it is not in
Iran’s interest to be involved in a war against Israel and its attack
dogs (the USA, the UK, France and perhaps now also Germany), I was a
little puzzled as to what explanations geopolitical pundits would put
forward for Iran’s de-escalation efforts. So, I turned to Perplexity.ai,
which gave me the following answer to my question ‘
Why
did Iran not retaliate a second time to Israel’s attack against it?’.
Although a little biased towards Western sources (an application
properly programmed would have included Iranian sources in its summary),
Perplexity.ai provided a highly plausible set of factors explaining that
country’s restraint:
Based on the search results provided, it appears Iran did not
retaliate a second time against the reported Israeli drone strikes in
Isfahan for a few key reasons:
1. To avoid further escalation and an all-out war with Israel. The
search results indicate Iran's response to the Isfahan incident was
muted, referring to it as an "infiltration" rather than an attack by
Israel.[2] This seems calculated to avoid having to retaliate, which
could spark a cycle of escalating violence.
2. The strikes caused limited damage. Iranian officials downplayed the
Isfahan incident, stating the drones were "mini-drones" that caused no
damage or casualties.[2] With minimal provocation, Iran likely
calculated there was no need for a major retaliatory response.
3. Desire to keep the confrontation limited. One analysis suggests
Iran's initial missile/drone attack on Israel was intended as
"carefully calibrated retaliation" rather than the start of a wider
war.[5] Not retaliating again appears part of Iran's strategy to keep
the confrontation contained.
4. Avoiding undermining diplomacy. Some experts believe Iran held back
to avoid undermining diplomatic efforts by the U.S. and others to
de-escalate tensions and prevent the situation from spiraling into
open conflict.[5]
5. Lack of strategic value. With Israel not acknowledging the Isfahan
strikes, Iran may have seen little strategic value in a retaliatory
strike that could provoke further Israeli retaliation.[3]
In essence, Iran seems to have calculated that not retaliating again
was the prudent course to avoid escalating into a potentially
devastating all-out war with Israel, especially given the limited
scale of the reported drone strikes.[1][2][4][5]

Compare
this with Copilot’s replies to the same question:
Me
When was the last time that Iran was the aggressor in a war?
Iran has been involved in several conflicts throughout its history.
Here are some notable instances:
1. **Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988)**: Also known as the First Gulf War,
this was a prolonged armed conflict between Iran and Iraq. It began
with the Iraqi invasion of Iran and lasted for eight years. The war
ended with the acceptance of United Nations Security Council
Resolution 598¹[5].
2. **Recent Conflict (2024)**: In April 2024, Iran launched a missile
and drone attack on Israel in retaliation for an Israeli strike on the
Iranian consulate in Damascus. However, the attack was largely
neutralized with the help of the US, UK, Jordan, and the Israeli
military²[2]³[3]⁴[4].
While these are some examples, it's essential to recognize that
historical context and perspectives can vary. The concept of
"aggressor" can be subjective, depending on different viewpoints and
interpretations of events. 🌐

The last time Iran initiated a war was during the **Iran-Iraq War**
(1980–1988). This conflict, also known as the First Gulf War, began
with Iraq's invasion of Iran. It lasted for eight years and resulted
in significant casualties and territorial disputes between the two
nations[1]. Since then, Iran has been involved in other regional
tensions and conflicts, but it has not officially started another
full-scale war.
It's essential to consider historical context and differing

In contrast, Perplexity.ai offered again a more balanced answer
(probably because it is not a widely used and
therefore, I would
assume, not under any injunction from
the US State Department to tweak its results):
Me
When was the last time that Iran was the aggressor in a war?
Based on the information provided in the search results, Iran has
not been the clear aggressor in a war for a long time, but there are
some instances where Iran's actions could be considered aggressive:
- The Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) began with Iraq invading Iran in 1980,
but Iran rejected a UN ceasefire resolution in 1982 and launched an
offensive into Iraqi territory, which could be seen as an aggressive
act.[3]
- In the early 19th century, Iran invaded parts of the Caucasus region
between 1804-1813 and again in 1826 against Russia, though this was
partly instigated by the British.[1]
- In 1856-1857, Persian forces invaded western Afghanistan to claim
Herat, leading to the Anglo-Persian War with Britain.[1]
- There were border skirmishes and pushes into southern Iraq in the
early 20th century as Iran tried to exert control over the Shatt
al-Arab waterway.[1]
However, the sources state that Iran has not directly started or been
the clear aggressor in a full-scale war for over 200 years, with the
last such instance being the Anglo-Persian War in 1856-1857 when
Persian forces invaded Afghanistan.[1] More recently, Iran has been
accused of aggressive actions through proxies and militias, but not
outright initiating invasions of other countries itself in the past
couple of centuries.[1]

As I am certainly no military expert, please do not take my words as
authoritative. The more so as one should always question everything, do
one’s own research and draw one’s own conclusions. Anyhow the
situation remains volatile
given that
Netanyahu has a vested
interested in keeping his country at war because of
the charges of corruption he is facing and the security failings under

I believe that Israel

In addition, a
conflict between Israel and
Iran would cause the price of petroleum to go through
the roof,
as was the case in the 1974, but this time because Iran would almost
certainly block or disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
What is more, the USA would be drawn into the war and this would
certainly sound the death knell for Biden to be reelected to the US
presidency.
However, I am convinced that
Israel will retaliate in due
time by using proxies or Mossad agents to perpetrate
some major act of terrorism or simply by targeting
senior IRGC military commanders
whose presence abroad they will have learned of through their own or
maybe even through Western intelligence networks.
